Welcome to Medford, home of some of the finest restaurants in South Jersey.
This little guide was inspired by my brother, who warns: "Never recommend a restaurant to a friend. Even in the unlikely event that everything will be as good as it was on your visit, the mere recommendation will set their expectations so high that they'll be disappointed." So with that challenge, I bring to you my suggestions and cautions for eating in and around Medford.

Avion {LL}, [60 Fostertown Road at The Flying W Airport. 267-8787] This is a great place to take the family. Kids (and I) enjoy watching the planes take off and land. The food is your basic American cuisine. They feature a great Sunday brunch buffet from 10am to 2pm.

Beau Rivage {LL} [128 Taunton Boulevard, just past Taunton Forge, 983-1999] Beau Rivage has been given a four star rating by national food critics. I can't give you my personal opinion because I've never been able to afford their four star prices. If you have a really special occasion, you should give it a try.

Bella Pizza's Jo Jo's Café [175 Route 70 West, Sharp's Run Plaza, 714-2274] I prefer Jo Jo's pizza to the franchise pizza places in town, not everyone agrees with me. They also offer a complete menu of sandwiches, burgers and salads, all of which can be delivered to the Cedars. Jo Jo's Café is the only place in Medford that you can get a gyro (it's a Greek sandwich).

Braddock's Tavern {LL} [39 South Main Street, 654-1604] Another great four star restaurant. Their menu features unique items, like their game pie, that reflect Medford's culinary past. They have a banquet room for large gatherings, an enclosed second floor porch that overlooks Main Street, the main dinning room and an informal room with a bar, all very nice.

Branco's Pizza [Stokes & Jackson Roads 654-4115] Another fine alternative to franchise pizza. They deliver to the Medford area.

Burger King [173 Route 70 West in Sharps Run Plaza 654-4070] I've always preferred Burger King to McDonald's, however this location doesn't live up to my expectations. My favorite sandwiches are often dried out and the salads are wilted. Since McDonalds does a lot more business, your chances of getting fresher fast food are better.

Café Noelle[20 South Main Street, 953-1155] Another restaurant given a four star rating from the Philadelphia Inquirer. Entrees start at $10.95, their specialty is pasta. Look for discount coupons in the Money Mailer coupon pack in the mail.

Cerino's Pizza [ Route 70 East,  609-953-9295] Located next to Active Fitness (Formerly Guinto's). More than just good pizza, sandwiches and take-out dinners. Delivery usually available.

Charley's Other Brother {LL} [Route 537 (The Marne Highway), Mount Holly, 261-1555] C.O.B. is not a Medford restaurant however it's a favorite of mine. The food is great, and with the coupons in Thursday's Burlington County Times, the price is right.

China Fun [422  Stokes Road, 654-8998] A large menu of Chinese take-out, the best priced of our Asian restaurants. Unique to the others is their egg plant with garlic sauce.

Coneheads Homemade Ice Cream [Pineland's Plaza (Behind McDonald's), 654-9155] Medford's best ice cream. Be sure to ask for malt in your sundaes.

David's Fortune Cookie[200 Tuckerton Road in Taunton Forge, 596-2929]

Dilisi's Pizza [Tomlinson Mill Road, 596-0068]

DiVello's Deli [122 Route 541, the Medford-Mount Holly Road, 654-4780]  DiVello's of Medford has won the Best of Burlington County 2002 in 5 categories: 1) Best Deli; 2) Best Steak; 3) Best Hoagie; 4) Best Lunch spot; and 5) Best Catering.

Dutch Wagon Restaurant [109 Route 70 West in the Dutch Market, 953-3888] Deli, steaks, and roasted chickens are terrific. A little more expensive than KFC, but I prefer Dutch Wagon over KFC. Open Thursday, Friday & Saturday only.

Evergreen Dairy Bar & Restaurant [Route 70 West, 654-6806] Hamburgers, French fries and drive-in food. There's nothing special here, but for some reason I always enjoy it.

Femmina Italian Grill [408 Stokes Rd, 609-714-8800 Fax: 609-714-8813] Warm Italian atmosphere, family friendly.  Wonderful food and service from the family that brought us the Tarantella Restaurant.

Full Ho Restaurant [Stokes Road in Ironstone Village, 953-1930] A very good restaurant that's sometimes overlooked because we have three other good Chinese restaurants in Medford. Combination platters are about $7.00.

Indian Chief  {LL} [Route 70 East, 654-5776]. The food here is basic diner fare served in an atmosphere that was very up-scale in the 1960's. They feature a $7.95 early bird special that is very popular. I consider the chocolate mousse reason enough to go.

Ironstone Village Deli [560 Stokes Road in Ironstone Village, 953-5577] A deli. They make deli trays for parties. They do a good job, but you're so close to Murphy's you might-as-well drive a few more yards.

Izzie's Eatery & Carry Out [679 Stokes Road in the Prudential Plaza, 654-2121 Fax: 654-2323] Great food, service and atmosphere. Try their award winning crab cakes and chicken salad.   They serve breakfast (but only on Sunday) and feature Belgian waffles, omelets, blueberry pancakes, French toast and more. The lunch menu features homemade soups, salads hot entrees and sandwiches. They also do catering.

[Corner of Main Street & Union, 953-2692] Formerly The Stagecoach Inn, which opened in the early 1800's it really was a stagecoach stop and hotel, now it's a cafe.

Jasmine Oriental Cuisine [175-6 Route 70 West in Sharps Run Plaza, 654-8818] Great Chinese/Vietnamese style.  The is without a doubt the best Oriental cuisine in the area.  Combination platters around $8.00. Closed Mondays.

Johnson's Market [Hartford & Church Road opposite Lenepe High School, 654-6834] More than just a farm market, Johnson's baking is terrific. They also have roasted chickens.

Kamakura Japanese Restaurant[Route 70 East and Elmwood Road Marlton, 983-2990] Not a Medford restaurant, but if you have a yen (pardon the pun) for Japanese food, this is the closest, and excellent. A bit expensive, but an enjoyable place to meet and eat .

Kentucky Fried Chicken [Route 70 East at Hartford Road, 654-2787] You might have seen their commercials on TV...

La Familia Sonsini  closed in 2005 and is now a private residence.  Don't go there, it really bugs the new owners.

Lamberti Cucina Ristorante [200 Tuckerton Road in the Village of Taunton Forge, 985-2721, www.lambertis.com] Pretty good Italian food, pretty good prices.

L.B. Daniel's (Lite Bite) [Stokes Road, 654-1551] Great homestyle food, also available for take-out. Lite Bite has been a favorite of mine for years. I recommend the roast lamb with brown potatoes.

McDonald's [601 Stokes Road, 953-0634] You may have heard of them. Hamburgers, french fries, etc. I understand they also have other locations.

Med Port Diner & Restaurant[122 Route 70 East, 654-4001] I'm a big fan of diners, and I'm sorry to say this is not one of my favorites. The food is below average. If you're looking for a good breakfast at a good price, try Lite Bite.

Medford Tavern {LL} [656 Stokes Road, 654-2700] (Formerly Nicklebees) Great food prepared by chef Wilhelm Slimm.  German specialties, steaks, salad bar, and catering. As you would expect from a German chef, great Bavarian desserts.

Mister China [67-4 Stokes Road in the Lakes Shopping Center, 953-9775] Mister China has been a part of Medford longer than any of our other Chinese restaurants and yet I've never eaten there, nor can I find anyone who has.

Mom's Bake-At-Home Pizza [560 Stokes Road in Ironstone Village, 654-8885] Traditional pizzas, they make it, you bake it at home. Look for coupons in your Money Mailer coupon pack to get a large pizza for $7.95.

Murphy's Market [Stokes Road in the Lakes Shopping Center, 654-8422] Sure it's a super market, but their deli counter has Medford's best value in hoagies, made with Amoroso rolls. Great for picnics or tailgate parties. They also have great salads, I recommend the chicken salad.

Peking Gourmet [Route 70 East in Medford Center, 654-6667] Great food, big menu, fast service and all priced right. This is my favorite take-out restaurant. Not only is the service usually fast, but they get the order right too.

Piezano's  [185 Route 70 West (609) 654-953-2111]  Gourmet Pizza, Italian dinners, Buffalo wings, Burgers, club sandwiches. Free Delivery.

Pizza Hut [519 Stokes Road, 654-6668]

Roselli Italian Specialties [Church Road Between Hartford and Route 541, 654-4816] Roselli prepares entrees such as lasagna, that you bake at home. Perfect for parties and entertaining.

Sweet & Savory Deli [679 Stokes Road, 654-8859] It's a deli and I have not tried it yet.

Tabernacle Inn{LL} [1488 Route 206 Tabernacle, 268-1060] Not a Medford restaurant but worth noting. Very nice ambiance, good service, not too expensive for an up-scale restaurant.

Tarantella Restaurant [Route 70 East at Hartford Road, 714-9050] Great steaks, and best gourmet pizza in town. This is a nice Italian restaurant you can take the family to, because they have something for everyone. Appropriately priced.

Tony Soprano's Pizza & Ristorante [Holly Plaza at Skeet and Dixontown Road, 609-714-3300] Real pizza, Bobby Chez crab cakes, and Italian specialties delivered to the Medford Area.

Wawa Markets [199 Route 541 and Church Road 654-1363] and 617 Stokes Road, 654-8050 and 211 Tuckerton Road 654-9475, and Route 70 at Eayerstown Road, 714-9016] If you're in a hurry Wawa is the place to stop. I venture to say that they can make you a fresh sandwich to your specifications faster than you could walk to the back of the Acme and get a ready-made one from the cooler. If you are not in a hurry, go to Murphy's.

= Credit Cards Accepted {LL} = Liquor License
Bon Appetite!
